Job Title: Operations Shop Hand
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Reports to: Field Operations Manager
Number of Positions: 1
Job Overview
As an Operations Shop Hand, you will play a key role in supporting the Shop retrofit and fabrication team in a manufacturing environment. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the materials movement, organization and various other support tasks at our facility.
Operation of overhead crane and a 30-40K lbs forklift will be required.
This role is hands-on, physically demanding, and requires a strong focus on safety and adherence to process standards. Mechanical experience, shop fabrication, welding, operator skills, millwright, and maintenance experience are all valuable assets for this role.
You will report directly to the Field Operations Manager.
Qualifications
- 1-3+ years of experience working as a general or skilled labourer in a construction, or industrial setting.
- Forklift certification and 1 year experience operating 10K+ forklift/zoom boom in industrial/construction setting.
- Mechanical experience, shop fabrication, operator, welding, millwright, maintenance experience is an asset.
- Strong physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks.
- Highly motivated, able to work independently and under pressure.
- Experience in equipment operation and maintenance is preferred (e.g., forklift, electrical equipment).
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Work a fixed schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with opportunity for overtime.
Duties & Responsibilities
Materials Management and Fabrication Support
- Perform general and skilled labour tasks during the fabrication, construction, of shop equipment.
- Assist with material movement, receiving and tracking parts/equipment installation, assembly, and other support work as required.
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe work environment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed during construction phases.
Operational Support
- Carry out routine labour tasks during operations, including transporting, organizing, loading, and unloading materials.
- Assist in maintaining equipment, performing light maintenance tasks, and ensuring workspace cleanliness.
- Apply mechanical, fabrication, operator, and millwright skills in maintaining equipment as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring all operations follow company and regulatory standards.
- Completion of Workhub safety system training and onboarding actions
- Wear full personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including hardhat, gloves, boots and protective clothing (provided).
- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and operational briefings.
- Report any safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to supervisors and participate in the investigation and resolution of safety-related issues.
Team Collaboration & Site Support
- Contribute to the overall productivity of the team, ensuring work meets or exceeds expectations.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work ethic while contributing to team and facility goals.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Perform repetitive tasks that involve standing, walking, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and snow.
- Must be comfortable working in environments with dust and airborne particles, including confined spaces and potentially noisy areas.
- Capable of handling heavy equipment, moving materials, and performing manual labor tasks consistently throughout the workday.
